How often does a kitchen hood fire suppression system have to be inspected?

Every six months, which is twice as often as your extinguishers. The clock runs from the last inspection date on the tag, not from the start of the year.

What happens during a hood suppression system inspection?

We check the tank and its pressure, the fusible links, the nozzle caps, the manual pull station, and the link that shuts down the gas or power to the line. Then we tag the system and write the report.

Yes. Ansul is the system over most cooking lines we walk up to, and we inspect it the same way we inspect any other wet chemical system.

What is UL 300 and does my hood system meet it?

Accepted Answer

UL 300 is the listing standard for the wet chemical systems that go over commercial cooking equipment. Kitchens built or remodeled in the last twenty five years almost always have one. We tell you what you have at the inspection and put it in the report.

Do I still need fire extinguishers if I have a hood system?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The hood system protects the cooking line and nothing else. A 6 liter Class K unit belongs within 30 feet of travel from the cooking equipment, and an ABC does not satisfy that requirement. Your building still needs ABC coverage elsewhere, and we handle all of it on the same visit.

The tag and the report. In most cases they check the tag date and the report that was submitted. A system that was already written up needs a new tag and a report showing what was fixed.

We tell you what it is and what it costs before we do the work. Parts we have to order turn into a return trip, usually two to three weeks out, and the report shows what was found either way.
